• A Satire of the Three Estates
The first ever full-length production of The Three Estates on the Peel at Linlithgow.
Sir David Lyndsay's epic play of Scottish politics, power and reform in the historic setting of Linlithgow Palace 7th- 9th June 2013.

'Staging the Scottish Court' is a two year, interdisciplinary research project which will stage Sir David Lyndsay's A Satire of the Three Estates as part of a wider investigation of the Scottish Renaissance and Stewart court and modern images of national identity and the Scottish past.
Directed by Greg Thomson and starring a host of Scottish actors including Scott Hoatson, Alison Peebles and Gerry Mulgrew,it is the first time A Satire of the Three Estate will be performed in its entirety since 1554.
Written shortly before the Reformation, the play addresses the state of the nation following the death of James V. The story follows a young king who is influenced by unsavory characters and is led on a path of immorality. The king calls a parliament of the three estates (Spirituality, Temporality and the Merchants) to reform social problems voiced by John The Commonweal and a Poor.

The project, led by Professor Greg Walker and Dr Eleanor Rycroft of the University of Edinburgh, and Professor Thomas Betteridge of Brunel University, brings together academics from across the U.K with archaeologists and historical interpetors from Historic Scotland and professional theatre and film-makers.
